May 23-27, 2011 EXAM TIME!

ART 6

Below is a Prezi on our exam for art. We will be working on one point perspective fantasy rooms. We will have step-by-step video and written instructions throughout the process of creating the rooms.

 

Studio Art

We will finish our Op Art for our final exam. Make sure you show depth and an illusion of space in your drawing.

May 16-20, 2011

I can't believe we only have two more weeks of school left! Where has the year gone!? This week we will be wrapping up 2 art units.

Art6: OP ART DUE! We will critique our Op Art Monday and finish the project with the sub from last Friday. For the rest of the week we will paint our Chinese Treasure Box and critique those as well.

Studio Art: We put the Op Art on hold for a few days so we can paint our Face Jugs.

Art6: We are starting to color our Op Art with black sharpie this week. First they mark with pencil where each section is going to be colored in black, then start coloring!

OP ART IS DUE MONDAY 5/16/2011!! WE WILL HAVE OUR CRITIQUE MONDAY AS WELL!!!

Studio Art 7/8: We are starting the Op Art unit! Last Friday we looked at examples of Op Art and we will look at more examples Monday! After each presentation, we practice drawing a shape to look like a 3-D form. We will put all of this knowledge and practice into a final piece! We will start the rough draft this week.

THE OP ART ROUGH DRAFT IS DUE MONDAY 5/16/2011 FOR A GRADE!!!

May 3-6, 2011: Continue Op Art and Relief Prints...DUE DATES COMING UP! READ BELOW!

Art 6: We will continue working on the rough draft of our Op Art composition. We will finish the rough draft at the end of class on Wednesday.

YOU WILL TURN IN THE ROUGH DRAFT FOR A GRADE WEDNESDAY!!!!

We will start the final draft on Thursday. Make sure to use a ruler for all straight lines and the compass for all curved lines. Craftsmanship is very important for a good Optical effect. Once everything is drawn out, we will color them with Sharpie.

Studio Art: We will finish up printing on Monday and work back into the final edition of prints Tuesday and Wednesday.

THE FINAL EDITION OF PRINTS IS DUE THURSDAY!! WE WILL HAVE THE CRITIQUE ON THURSDAY!!!

We will start the Op Art unit on Friday :)

April 25-29, 2011: Op Art and TAKS and Prints...Oh My!

Good Luck to all of my students taking the TAKS test Tuesday and Wednesday. Get lots of rest and eat a good breakfast and most of all RELAX, you will do great!

On Monday, Art 6 will practice drawing several different backgrounds for their Op Art drawing, then at the end of this week well will start the rough draft.

Studio Art will make several artist proofs of their relief print Monday and at the end of the week they will start printing the edition on prints.

It's Op Art!!! Do your eyes hurt yet? (April 18-21, 2011)

 

Art 6: We will first critique our prints on Monday, then I will introduce you to Op Art or Optical Art. We will flashback to the 1960's and learn about this style of art which is comprised of illusion, and often appears - to the human eye - to be moving or breathing due to its precise, mathematically-based composition.

Studio Art: ( German Expressionism Relief Prints) Now that we have some awesome, emotionally charged rough draft designs for our prints, we will start cutting into our linoleum this week. I will demo the process Monday and for the rest of the week they will cut into their printing plates!

April 4-8, 2011: Printmaking

Art 6: We are starting our printmaking unit! We will make relief prints of Endangered Animals inspired by the series of prints by Andy Warhol. Check out the link to the website below to see how the process of printing works!

Art6 (7th and 8th Period): ADINKRA PRINTS: Some classes are creating stamps inspired by the Adinkra Stamps.  Adinkra cloth is a hand printed fabric. The origin of Adinkra cloth is traced to the Ashanti people of Ghana. Initially the cloths were made for royalty to be worn at religious ceremonies. Adinkra cloth is decorated with traditional symbols that covey the thoughts and feelings of the person wearing them. The fabric of adinkra cloth is divided into squares by lines drawn using a bark dye and then stamped with gourds that have been carved with designs.

Studio Art:EXPRESS YOURSELF! We started our German Expressionism Prints! We are getting down to the heart of making art and putting thoughts and feelings behind our images. They have to create a portrait, landscape or city scape that expresses strong emotion. Check out this awesome website from MOMA that has a excellent collection of prints from this movement!

Extra Credit Opportunity!

The Fine Arts Department is having the Fine Arts Fiesta April 15th from 6-7:30. Each class creates a gift basket for a silent auction fundraiser during the Fiesta. My art classes are creating a "Family Fun Night Basket". Please bring any board games, playing cards, DVD's, popcorn, candy etc. to include in the basket (Even stuff for the pets! They are family members too ;) I will give extra credit to the major project grade average!!!

March 28-April 1: Continuing our Clay unit!!

Art 6: We made the slabs for the walls of our treasure box last week and began to score and slip the side to put them together. Check out the video tutorial under my pages column if you need to review. This week we are doing to start adding on our additive and subtractive decorations to the outside of the box.

Studio Art: We finished making the slabs for our face jugs and have begun to score and slip the edges to put them together. Check out the video tutorials under my pages column if you need to review! This week we will begin putting all the unique facial features to our jugs using the additive and subtractive method!
