Art I - will finish our printmaking assignment and critique
Studio Art - will clean up our mixed media images and critique as well
ALL WED = CLAY!!!
We will all be working with clay for the next two weeks. Art I will be creating life-size clay portraits. Studio Art will be creating miniature face jugs.
This week Art I will be continuing our printmaking unit, learning about artist Shepard Fairey, and creating prints from our self portraits. Here is my silly example that illustrates what not to do - ie - no hands, no "duck face":
Students will be transferring their image to the soft cut linoleum, and carving their image. The carving takes about 2 days, and the printing is extremely fast! This assignment - the final 3 "good" prints are due on Friday!
Studio art had tons of fun last week with our team building art activities. Our teaming will continue this week with a lesson in life drawing and gesture drawing. Teams will take turns modeling for each other while the other team members draw them. By the end of the week we will have several completed drawings.
This week we will be reestablishing our classroom expectations and team building through team art activities: exquisite corpses, tower building and life size group drawings!
Th/F Art I will begin our printmaking unit studying artists like Shepard Fairey. We will create and print our own self portraits altered using: http://obamiconme.pastemagazine.com/
Studio Art is getting one more day to make those Oceans sculptures fabulous before we go into exam mode. For our exam students will be creating an artist trading card - a small 2"x3.5" painting of their oceans sculpture, set in an environment.
It's hard to believe that is already December. And, we only have 2 weeks of class until winter break! This week we will all focus on the completion of our sculpture assignments in preparation for exams next week.
Studio Art will be painting their Ocean's sculptures this week. Each sea creature will be painted using 10 values of a single color. Sculptures are due on Friday!
Art I will complete their Lady Gaga inspired sculptures this week as well. Sculptures will be due on Thursday December 8th. I am adjusting our deadline +1 to accommodate for our short classes on early release this Wednesday. We will critique our work on Friday.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. It's time to get back to our sculptures! :) I will be out three days this week at Capturing Kids Hearts, a training that Principal Hayes received a grant for teachers to attend. Mr. Mayfield will be here again in my absence.
Studio Art continues to work on our ocean creatures paper mache sculpture. Our armatures and paper mache layers will be complete by the end of this week. There is always some down time while waiting for a layer of glue to dry, so everyday will will have extended warm-ups that students will revisit while waiting on their project.
Here is an inspiring octopus for your enjoyment:
Art I: I hope you watched Lady Gaga's Thanksgiving special for inspiration! Our Gaga inspired "little monsters" sculptures will be in full swing this week. We will be working with wire and paper mache, unless you want to use an alternate material that you have access to. Please be sure to clear it with me first! :)
Art I continues to create their Artist Trading Card series of 3, based on a theme of their choosing. Students are also encouraged to explore a variety of art media for this assignment.
Studio Art will begining our sculpture unit this week. For inspiration, we will watch Disney's Oceans. Students will draw different seat creatures while watching, and select the one they most identify with to create a paper mache sculpture of.
